ETC is a community-based, human resource agency, founded and chartered in 1982 in the state of RI. ETCcombines the arts, communication and psychology and focuses on the benefits of creative problem-solvingthrough education, coaching and therapy. We offer services to individuals, groups, families and business.

ETC is a practicum site in the creative arts therapies for graduates, undergraduates and volunteers.We conduct educational programs for public and professional staff development that are designed to meet individual objectives.

PROBLEM SOLVING
Uses creativity to discover, present and explore new ideas. Participants are encouraged to look at issuesfrom new perspectives. Creative problem-solving draws on knowledge, logic, imagination and intuition.

ART THERAPY
Uses art materials to give visual form to emotions and mental experience. The making of artfacilitates a therapeutic dialogue to foster self-awareness and reconcile an emotional conflict,and helps to organize thinking.

DANCE/MOVEMENT THERAPY
Uses movement and process to enhance the integration of physical, emotional and cognitive states. DanceMovement Therapy works to integrate feeling with behavior and action. Dance It increases coping skills,improves reality orientation and takes the excuse-making out of the head.

DRAMA THERAPY
Uses creative drama, theatre and role-playing to promote the goals of emotional and physical rehabilitation,symptom relief and personal growth.

MUSIC/SOUND THERAPY
Uses sound & rhythm as creative and structured therapeutic tools to improve & maintain skills incommunication, socialization and motor development. It encourages sensory development in thecognitive and affective domains.

Expressive therapies use the verbal and non-verbal language stimulated by the creative arts: Dance ,Music, Visual Art and Drama. These methods involve sensory integration, creativity and imagination toheighten awareness and focus on communication and expression. A dynamic, action-oriented process thatincorporates touch, sight, hearing, smell, sound and kinesthetic responses allows the expressive therapiesto promote optimal levels of physical, psychological and psychosocial functioning.

Program Examples As an Expressive Art Therapist, Marcia provides educational and therapeutic servicesto community agencies, hospitals and schools. She is responsible for designing programs and coordinatingthe group of artists and therapists who provide therapeutic intervention, workshops and training.
